If you are one of the nearly 2 million people who have viewed the video below, you already know that Will Smith is about more than chasing zombies, aliens, human-like robots, flying around like a superhero, chasing happyness, or laying down the occasional hit rap song. He’s not only just a success professionally as a rapper, actor, and producer, but he’s very successful in his personal life as well. If you read the secrets to success below and watch the video, I think you’ll understand why. Here are 10 secrets to success pieced together from Will Smith interviews.

1 – Greatness is something that exists in all of us. Find out who you are, what you believe in, and want out of life. Once you know this, then stop at nothing short of the goals you’ve set for yourself.

2 – There is no shortcut to success. Talent and skill are 2 different things. Talent is something innate, while skill is something that only comes when putting in hours and hours of dedication towards getting better. It’s only when you’ve put in the hours, that you’ll really achieve success at something.

3 – Lay one brick at a time. Nobody starts a marathon without taking a first step. You don’t began building a wall without laying a first brick. If you’re going to ever achieve a big goal, you have to concentrate on doing each step perfectly as you’re working towards that goal.

4 – Make a difference. Look to create value and meaning in other peoples live, because it will in turn enrich your own. Everyone should want to do good and mean something in the world.

5 – Where you are in life right now doesn’t matter as long as you’re moving forward. Your past and present don’t matter. you’ve already lived your past, you’re in the present, so the only thing you have to focus on is what’s to come. The thing that matters is that you are constantly working towards your goals, and growing and improving as a person.

6 – Don’t be “realistic.” Being realistic is basically setting a cap before you’ve even gotten started. Realistic is simply a quick path to mediocrity and will hinder your growth and potentially get in the way of your best ideas.

7 – Believe in yourself and big ideas. If you’re going to be more successful than other people throughout history, you have to believe that something different is possible. If you don’t start with yourself first believing, nobody else will either.

8 – Our thoughts, feeling, and ideas are physical in the universe. The Universe is a fluid thing. The thoughts, feelings, and ideas you put out there create a ripple like raindrops in a lake. If you decide with intent, who you are and what you’re going to be, the Universe will get out of your way.

9 – You need to focus. This one is actually probably more important in this day an age than ever before. It is so easy to suffer from information overload or get distracted due the the 24 hour nature of our society and our devices these days, that focus can be incredibly difficult. This somewhat goes back to the idea of laying bricks perfectly one at a time, and not going out to build a wall. You have to start and focus all your energy on each step of the process, or each step won’t be as successful.

10 – Attack your fears. Pretty simple here. Fear leads to doubt and inaction, and will prevent you from achieving your goals. Attack your fears!!

I can’t end without mentioning my favorite 2 quotes from within that compilation either.

“I’m not afraid to die on a treadmill. If you and I get on a treadmill, 1 of 2 things is gonna happen. Either you’re getting off first, or I’m gonna DIE.”

“There is no reason to have a plan B, because it distracts from plan A.”
